Wow - it looks like cola! Was the water really that brown or did the HDR color it? Very unique.

I find that if you go 100 ISO instead of 400 (using a tripod) and F36 or F22 the shutter should be slow enough to give you that silky smooth effect even without the ND filter....Btw, It's wonderful in HDR

The water in many Upper Michigan streams/waterfalls has a deep brown flavor - not because of the mud they carry and not because of the copper [and other minerals], but because of the tannins [tannic acid] from the surrounding vegetation.
The water was pretty brown but I wouldn't say HDR didn't enhance it a bit.

Quite a hike up there isn't it? I was there in the fall and had the same experience. Your shot is certainly better than mine. I wasn't able to capture the beauty of the great falls. I was surprised by the color of the falls when I was there. Thanks for explanation.

I love all of your waterfalls!! I have been there many times in the past years. If there is heavy rain fall the water is much darker. I have not taken a shot at the falls as of yet, but it looks like a plan!!! 2009-07-28 16:24:40
Here is a link for a shot you will love!! He is much like us (Loving Michigan)

Nicely done. I like how you fought the cloudless sky on this one. Several streams I shoot here in WV have this coloration due to tannins.
