What's The Story Here?

It was little over three months ago that I was photographing the Wild Goose Chase in Lake Linden, MI. Event went as planned, photographs turned out as expected and a lady named Amy Roberts won her age group while finishing second overall amongst women.

All was fine and dandy until the dreaded morning of December 16th, when the aforementioned Amy Roberts was hit by a car while on an early morning training run and ended up in critical condition at Marquette General Health System.

In what can only be considered a symbolic representation of how close knit this area is, the community (with a core group formed by Amy's friends and family) and the Aspirus Keweenaw Rehab & Fitness Center arranged - in less than 11 days - a fundraiser in the form of a 5k benefit run/walk.  

 

 

Nearly 700 (yeah, seven hundred) people - of all ages - showed up on the eve of New Year, on some what of a cold & snowy Sunday morning to participate in the event.

I have known of Amy Roberts but can't say I know her in person. But as the word spread through the community about today's event during the last 10 or so days, I didn't meet a single person - within a 100 mile radius - that had a bad thing to say about her. And that was good enough for me to participate in this event. While running/walking 5k (or barely somehow making it through) would have been ok, I figured photographing it would be a better option.
